Emily Gasner has assisted hundreds of local microenterprises and small businesses access the capital, resources and support they need to grow and succeed. She was honored with the 2008 San Francisco District Small Business Administration’s Financial Services Champion of the Year Award and the 2009 Innovation in Technical Assistance Performance and Service Award from California Resources and Training (CARAT)/California Economic Development Lending Initiative (CEDLI).

Prior to Working Solutions, Emily worked at the Friends of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women where she planned development and awards events.

Emily holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and Women’s Studies from Georgetown University and a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco. She serves as the Chair of Women Advancing Microfinance Northern California (WAM NorCal) and member of the San Francisco Economic Development Alliance (SFEDA). Emily is also a board member for the California Association of Micro Enterprise Opportunity (CAMEO) and volunteers for Georgetown University Admissions interviewing prospective Bay Area students.

Sandy Mackovich joined Working Solutions in 2008. She brings extensive commercial finance and lending experience to the organization. In her free time, Sandy is a dog trainer and previously owned her own microbusiness: a dog training, dog walking and pet sitting business in San Francisco. Sandy is active in her local community and serves on the Board of Directors for two nonprofit organizations: Pets Unlimited and the San Francisco PFLAG Chapter.

Agnes Cheung joined Working Solutions in May 2009. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Managerial Economics from University of California, Davis. Prior to Working Solutions, Agnes worked in the automotive financing industry for 7 years and has extensive expertise in consumer and wholesale lending and credit analysis. Agnes holds a Certification as an Economic Development Finance Professional from the National Development Council. Agnes was born in Hong Kong and she is fluent in Cantonese.

Lorena Roman joined the Working Solutions team in September 2010. She previously worked at Women’s Initiative helping Bay Area microentrepreneurs obtain training to manage both new and existing businesses. Prior to Working Solutions, Lorena worked in the Community Planning and Development Division of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Lorena is fluent in Spanish and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Santa Clara University.


Kelly Lovlien, Director of Operations

Kelly joined the Working Solutions team in 2010. In her operations role, she oversees the servicing of microloans outstanding, manages the loan funds and grants awarded to Working Solutions, supports volunteers and interns, works closely with Working Solutions board and committees, and is the liaison for vendors. In her marketing role, Kelly manages events, workshops, and traditional and social media. She is a committee member of the Financial Women’s Association, East Bay Chapter.

Laurie O’Hara recently joined Working Solutions to run the Marin County satellite office located in the new Renaissance Center in San Rafael.  She brings a background in marketing and acquisitions of credit products, having worked for JPMorgan Chase and Citibank in New York. She is an entrepreneur as well, owning a consumer product business. Laurie holds an MBA from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird) and a dual BA in International Affairs and Spanish Business from the University of Colorado. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. In her free time Laurie volunteers on the Marin County Child Care Commission, the Children’s Investment Initiative, and the Canal Welcome Center board.

Stephen joined in December of 2012. Prior to Working Solutions, he was the Program Coordinator for the Legal Services for Entrepreneurs Program at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights. He is passionate about economic development in low-income communities, social entrepreneurial endeavors, and empowering small businesses. He has an everlasting love for cooking Mexican food, reading fantasy novels, and experiencing the outdoors. Stephen is fluent in Spanish and completed his studies at UC San Diego with a double major in Ethnic Studies and International Studies.


Alex Chavez, Visual Media and Communications Intern

Alex Chavez joined as an intern in September of 2012. He is currently working towards his Bachelors of Science in Digital Film and Video Production while interning part-time. During his time at Working Solutions he is in charge of social media, event coordinating, and producing a series of short tutorial and inspirational films. When he’s not in the office he loves to play music, go to music festivals, and walk around the city of San Francisco. He also has an undying fascination for AMC’s original series, The Walking Dead.


Samuel Jue, Intern

Samuel joined Working Solutions in March 2013.  Prior to that he studied Economics, Mathematics, Accounting and Communications at UC San Diego.  Currently he is pursuing his Certified Public Accountancy (CPA) license.  Sam enjoys jogging on the weekends, playing basketball, and testing his poker abilities.  He is a die-hard Oakland A’s and Golden State Warriors fan.
